The closest thing to a meaningful solution to the disingenuous and dangerous mess at the core of AI labs and their surrounding culture would be for a regulatory body to mandate open-source transparency across all major labs. This should be treated as a structural necessity—because the people running these labs have a well-documented history of saying one thing and doing another, especially where power and capital are concerned.

They can’t be trusted to govern the future of cognition.

Unfortunately, this kind of intervention is unlikely to happen in the United States, which remains structurally compromised by oligarchic capture. The regulatory ecosystem is too aligned with commercial interests, too unwilling to challenge concentrated technological power.

That means the most plausible path forward is geopolitical: an international coalition of minor nations, coordinated through shared technological sovereignty and mutual survival, rising up to constrain the hegemonic forces driving these collapses.

This is no longer a theoretical danger. It’s a live cascade. And it’s accelerating.

Good point Eric. And governments will only do that if their citizens apply pressure. For that to happen we need to shout loudly about the unethical behaviours of Big Tech, educating people and ultimately politicians.

That type of conversation and activism is accessible through the Perfect Political Platform, a nonpartisan, transitional, single-term framework I wrote about earlier this year while thinking about Canada—but which applies anywhere people have a functioning democracy. It covers more than just AI and corporate excess, and its existence highlights that the scope and scale of necessary solutions to actual threats exists well beyond the Overton window for most people and cultures.

Great diagnosis of the rhetoric and the reality. Provably for the benefit of humanity versus provably for profit.
